Raptor Report is proud to announce the 2014-2015 ASB president, Karen Barragan! The ASB president is in charge of creating fun events, school spirit, and positive change within HTHNC. This year, Karen wants to spice things up. “I want to give students the kind of memories that they will remember years from now,” she enthusiastically stated. “I was surprised yet really thankful to win. I’m glad the students see potential in me.” Respectfully acknowledging her competitor, Karen said, “Regardless of who won, I would have been content. We both wanted the same goal: what’s best for our school.”
Karen’s favorite part of HTHNC is the community. “Our school is small, so we have more opportunities for events,” she said. ASB’s first upcoming event is Fall Ball! “ASB has been working on it for the past month and I’m so excited,” announced Karen. Since we don’t have a football team for a homecoming, Fall Ball will be centered around our fantastic basketball team. This new event will be open for the entire school to enjoy. Tickets will be on sale by the end of this month and the tentative date is Friday, November 14. The theme is going to be “Lights Out” so get pumped up and ready to glow!
“Sports bring schools together. I want to help make sports a bigger part of our community,” Karen said. HTHNC sports attendance is too low, partly due to lack of rides and unannounced game times [Check out our sport’s calendar!]. Karen plans to get HTHNC vans to be used as home game transportation. Students could sign up (first come, first serve) for rides to the game.
Everyone wants to know about future ASB events, so I asked for some hints. Karen said “For prom, just know that I’m going to make sure to get all of the senior’s input.” Karen brings the same attitude of commitment to all ASB events, saying “Events are for us, students. I want to make sure we make it memorable.” Let’s make some memories HTHNC, so see you at Fall Ball!
