As the 2017 fall sports season comes to a close, it’s important to look back on how the season went. The three fall sports – tennis, cross country, and volleyball – started off the year strong with great playing and improvement across the board.
We interviewed some of our athletes about their opinions of how the season went for them: “Tennis is a great opportunity to meet new people and play what you love” said 11th grader Maddie Iwanyc. This theme of having a fun outlet to better yourself and meet friends along the way seemed to resonate with many people across the three sports. Elly Jarvis of the 11th grade said this of the cross country team: “It’s fun, it’s big and supportive, and the coach encourages us to push ourselves.”
The teams of the fall season are some of the most tight-knit teams of all of High Tech High North County's sports teams. By supporting each other, each team member has each other's backs both socially and athletically. Senior Spencer Kricfalusi had some thoughts on his last year of cross country and reflecting on previous years: “The team started pretty small my first year, but this year it is much bigger. It has helped me with responsibility and growing as a runner.”
Indeed the cross country team will be losing many runners next year, seeing as the seniors make up a large portion of the team, but this still hasn’t stopped the team from learning which meets to go to and which to avoid as well as improving the rigor and agenda of each practice. The same is true for tennis with many saying that they have grown in singles and doubles as well as skill level over this season. Volleyball did great on both JV and Varsity with JV coming together to be a hard hitting crew and Varsity going to CIF.
The fall sports season may be coming to an end, but hopefully this is the precursor to a great rest of the year for HTHNC sports and even more improvement in the year to come. Stay tuned for more sports information and updates!
