High Tech High North County’s Science Olympiad team attended its first competition in February. Although they did not leave with any awards, they left with knowledge in their brains and team spirit in their hearts to return to compete with hundreds of other passionate high schoolers next February. High schools from all around San Diego County gathered together to solve math and science based questions about each science. Topics included climate change, the reproductive and immune system, forensics, and analysis of the population growth. Other topics had students building miniature Rube Goldbergs and miniature airplanes, a bungee drop, and solving technical problems.
Despite the competition between the different schools, students had a great time playing games and joking around with teachers. All in all, your fellow Raptors did this “For the love of Nerds.”
Thank you to those of you who stayed with the club while it was still getting on its feet and those who were passionate enough to start preparing four weeks before the competition as well as the club’s supportive teachers who took time out of their busy schedules and spent their Saturday at a ten hour competition and kept the team spirit high with their jokes. If you are interested in joining the Science Olympiad team, please contact either Leily Rezvani at [email protected] or Mr. Schwarz at [email protected].
