Rachel Edwards and Isaac Fernandez Rachel Edwards and Isaac Fernandez humored the audience with their speech on Friday. They joked about how Isaac had unintentionally dressed like Cosmo from The Fairly Oddparents. The funny duo described how they would bring school spirit to HTHNC by having fun dances with more students. “Our biggest goal is to have spirit at this school.” Rachel and Isaac strive to bring school spirit with student input. During their speech, Isaac told the crowd: “I want to find a way to be spirited as a whole, as an associated student body.” On Wednesday, Rachel told Raptor Report “We both have very outgoing personalities, and I think the best way to have better school dances and spirit weeks is to listen to the student’s ideas because we want students to be more enthusiastic about attending dances and joining our sports teams and clubs.” Rachel and Isaac are both very involved in sports and clubs themselves. Rachel is the founder and captain of the Girl’s Softball team at HTHNC, and Isaac is involved in many clubs, as well as church and band activities and together, they are active members of the Open to Faith club at school. These two presidential candidates don’t just have experience in school clubs, though. “As far as ASB experience goes, I was in ASB in middle school. In tenth grade, I became the Student Senator of ASB, and throughout my time in the club I was helping coordinate events like dances and spirit days. And last year, Isaac was the Social Chair, so together I feel like we have a lot of experience both in and out of ASB.” “We want our dances and spirit weeks to be more relatable and fun!” This duo plans on getting student input by talking to people one-on-one: “There’s a big difference between sending out surveys and actually talking to people. We want to personally talk to them to make this year an even greater one.” Candidates Rachel Edwards and Isaac Fernandez want to make the year a great one by bringing school spirit and promising changes to HTHNC. | Mykaela Barnes and Santiago Vega Albela “Let’s make HTHNC great again!” Although Mykaela Barnes, Santiago Vega Albela, and Donald Trump are running for President of different governments, they share one goal: to make their homes great. “We want to give everyone a voice. This year, we need to make realistic changes with student voice in every decision we make.” Mykaela and Santi have been in ASB since freshman year. “The main reason why I want student voice this year is because I have had personal experience with it last year. While I was the Vice President of ASB last year, I created a survey of various themes for Prom. I was hoping our dance could involve the input of our students. However, ASB ended up choosing a theme without asking anyone outside of the club. That is exactly what we don’t want to do this year. Santi and I want students to be involved in decisions about spirit week and dances.” Santi added to that by saying: “As Treasurer last year, I managed to boost our budget and fundraise for school dances.” Through that, he created a good relationship with Mr. Gooch which he believes will help them with this year. Santi also trains students in Student Ambassadors and is currently the Founder and President of Children’s Charity Club. Mykaela pointed out that the reason why they make a great team is because whatever one of their weakness is, it is the other one’s strength. “I’m a very logistical and organized person, and Santi is a very outgoing and helpful person to all his peers. Together, we are a very hard working partnership.” The two candidates hope to continue the work they accomplished last year to bring great dances and spirit events to our school. Quoting the words of Helen Keller, Mykaela and Santi believe that “Together, we can do so much.” If elected, Mykayla Barnes and Santiago Vega Albela will make changes by making student voice the loudest voice of all. |
